​The 2017 Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most important festival in China after the Chinese New Year and falls on October 4th within the National Day holiday and will prolong to October 8th.

Due to the pleasant autumn weather this is a peak time for travel. The name is related to the fact that it is always celebrated in the middle of the autumn season.

The day is also known as the Moon Festival, as at that time of the year the moon is at its roundest and brightest.

The National Day, celebrated on October 1th is to mark the formation of the People’s Republic of China. The holiday is also celebrated by China’s two special administrative regions: Hong Kong and Macau.

Traditionally, the festivities are celebrated nation wide begin with the ceremonial raising of the Chinese national flag in Tiananmen Square in the capital city of Beijing. The flag ceremony is follfireworks displays, which conclude the evening celebrations. The Chinese government expanded the celebrations by several days to give its citizens a seven-day vacation period. Often, the Chinese use this time to stay with relatives and to travel.
